You have probably already noticed that all the lights don't have the same "white" color? Some lights are spreading a light which tend to be yellow, and some others tend to be way more pale. These two possible white colors, are called "warm white" or "neutral white". These two possibilities of white will be used in different environments : the warm white is commonly used for an intimate lighting, as a living room or a bedroom, while the neutral white will often be used in public areas such as restaurants, bars, halls, …
In fact, I didn't tell you yet but 2 other textures of white exist, which will be even more white than the previous ones : the "cold white" and the "imitation of day's light". The cold white is the one used in working places such as schools, offices, hospitals, it will be very good for concentration. More rarely used, the imitation of day's light, as it says, will reproduce as much as it can the day's light in interiors, and this is what we try to do with our led light panels :
The color of a lamp is very often compared to the sun's color, at a special time of the day : the warm white will be considered as an evening light, the neutral light will be seen as a morning light, and the cold white as an afternoon light. The "imitation of day's light" will be considered as a 12:00 light, when the sun is at its strongest.
I have to precise that, in opposition to the other technologies, LED lights can adopt any kind of color. It's one of the numerous qualities of LED lights, while the incandescent and haogen lights will only be able to spread a warm light.
To be more precise, the different possibilities of white that we evoked before are called "color temperature". The "color temperature" can be measure way more precisely than we did before, with an unity called Kelvin. The smaller the number of Kelvins is, the more lights will be warm. Lights actually use the number of Kelvins between 2700 and 6500 K :
In photography, now it is possible to regulate the number of Kelvins thanks to softwares. Before, it needed many techniques to change the color temperature of a picture :
The color temperature of a light has many known and unknown impacts on our lives : it will have an influence on our sleep, our concentration, your social interactions, your tendency to buy or not (the light is smartly organized in shops, just to make you buy), to see the color of an item... This is why the interior decorators and architects pay so much attention to the lights.
The number of Kelvins is also used in astrophyiscs : in fact, as you saw on the first picture above, the smaller the number of Kelvins is, the more the light will tend to be yellow. But, if you diminish even more the number of Kelvins, you will be surprised to see that the color will turn to red. In the other way, the bigger will be the number of Kelvins, the more the color will tend to be blue. Of course, such extreme color temperatures are never used for regular lights. So what is the relation with astrophysics? If you see a star that is red, you will know that the number of Kelvins is low, and that will mean that the star is very... cold! It is the opposite with the blue. It's surprising but true.
Rainbows show us the poetry of our planet, but not only : it shows us all the visible colors included in the natural light (the sun of course you guessed it). There is about 16 Millions shades of grey (oops, no, colors)... If you really paid attention to courses at school, you should know that all these colors mixed together will become white. Thanks to this white, you are able to see items with all their colors. But, the problem is that all the interior lights are not able to reproduce such a white. With a regular incandescent bulb of 3 000 Kelvins (low number), you won't be able to see all the colors correctly. The more your light will be close to day's light (6500 K), the more you will be able to see the colors of the things that are around you. And I have a very good news : this is what we are manufacturing with our LED light panels!
